“She teaches with confidence and calmness, athletics and humour and an assured gentleness that puts her clients at ease while challenging them to exceed their fears.”

WHAT STYLE OF YOGA DO YOU TEACH?
I teach a number of different styles of yoga, including vinyasa (flow style), pre-natal, restorative, therapeutic, chair yoga and Urban Zen.
WHY PRIVATE YOGA?

Private yoga sessions can provide a wonderful start for beginners, a chance for more  seasoned yogis to deepen their practice and the opportunity to relax, stretch and switch off from the world without having to leave the comfort of your own home.

Private yoga sessions are customized to you, the client. What we work on may vary week to week, depending upon where you are in your life. We might focus on opening or releasing certain parts of the body (shoulders, hips, hamstrings), breaking down a particular pose or building some heat with a flowing vinyasa practice. We might even spend the whole session on the ground with a relaxing restorative practice, or you could  choose to split your session into half yoga and half reflexology or reiki. No matter what, I’ll meet you where you are, encouraging you to push yourself when need be and to relax when perhaps your inclination is to keep pushing.

I’ve been teaching a number of my clients for 14+ years and one of my most dedicated students is 95 years old!

what are some of the benefits of practicing yoga?
The benefits of practicing yoga are numerous. They include:
  • Increased flexibility
  • Stronger muscle tone
  • Feeling more “in tune” with your body
  • Improved balance
  • Stress release
  • Emotional and physical wellbeing
DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT FOR A YOGA SESSION?
To start with, you’ll need a yoga mat, two blocks and a yoga strap. They can all be purchased easily at sporting goods stores or online. As your practice progresses, or if you plan primarily to practice restorative yoga, therapeutic yoga or Urban Zen, you might consider buying a bolster and two blankets.
I LIVE IN A SMALL APARTMENT. HOW MUCH SPACE DO I NEED FOR A PRIVATE SESSION?
Not much! Yoga can be practiced just about anywhere. The size of a yoga mat (approximately 24” wide x 72” long), plus a little extra space on either side is all the room you’ll need.
WHAT DOES A CORPORATE YOGA SESSION LOOK LIKE?
More and more, corporations are realizing the benefits of offering yoga to their employees, including increased productivity and lower stress levels. Classes are usually taught in a conference room, common area or sometimes in the middle of the office itself. A half hour session might include chair yoga (participants would not need to change out of their work clothes) and breath work. During an hour long session, participants typically change into yoga clothes and practice more dynamic yoga poses. The focus is often on relieving common areas of stress, including the neck, back and shoulders.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR A YOGA SESSION?
You should wear clothes in which you can move and stretch comfortably. Most people find that gym workout clothes are sufficient, but there are some great yoga clothes on the market. Fitted t-shirts are better for yoga, as baggy tops tend to get in the way.

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

Reflexology is an ancient form of complementary therapy that encourages harmony of body, mind and spirit. It is based on the theory that every part of the body has a corresponding area, or reflex point, on the soles of the feet. By applying gentle pressure to these reflex areas, the whole body is encouraged to relax.

A reflexology session is an excellent way to reduce tension, promote healing, restore balance and encourage relaxation throughout the entire body. During a reflexology session, your feet will be soothingly stimulated using a combination of reflex point techniques and relaxation methods, leaving you feeling refreshed and balanced.

Studies by the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Health found that reflexology may reduce pain, shortness of breath and psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, and enhance relaxation and sleep. Studies also show that reflexology may have benefits in palliative care of people with cancer.

WHAT IS reiki?

Reiki is a healing therapy that encourages the body, mind and spirit to find balance and harmony. It promotes relaxation and a deep sense of wellbeing, as the body releases tension and returns to a more balanced state. Reiki can help to alleviate anxiety, reduce pain and encourage homeostasis. Reiki is suitable for everyone and is practiced by gently placing the hands on the body or just above the body.

The experience of a reiki session varies from person to person, but many people feel warmth or a tingling sensation. Some people drift off to sleep or experience a heightened dream-like state. At the end of the treatment, most people report feeling refreshed, with a more positive and balanced outlook.

WHAT IS URBAN ZEN?

Urban Zen Integrative Therapy (UZIT) is an integrative form of holistic therapy, addressing both the body and mind, through yoga therapy, essential oils, guided body scan meditations, breath awareness, reiki and contemplative care. Sessions can help digestion, respiration, circulation and movement and can alleviate pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia and constipation. UZIT session also help to alleviate stress and encourage a sense of wellbeing.

WHAT DO MY CLIENTS SAY?
Joanne Silver has been my reflexologist since 2005.

With reflexology, she can target the areas which need the most work, and you finish the session feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated.

For me, reflexology is not just about relaxation, but also an integral element to my total health and wellbeing.

In addition to her expert reflexology skills, Joanne has a great personality and sense of humor and we have become good friends.

I always look forward to our weekly sessions.

José Mejer

Retired Architect

When anxiety and stress started to affect my blood pressure and heart, I opted to avoid traditional medicine and instead try the combination therapy of reiki and reflexology.

I am thankful for this decision, because the practice continues to calm my being, energize my inner self and help my mind focus on the positive elements of my existence.

Joanne creates a serene and comfortable ambiance for bodywork; in actual practice, her hands are powerful and posses the ability to balance my energy and replenish my soul. I aver that the combination of reiki and reflexology with Joanne will have a positive and life changing impact on anyone who is open to its wonder.
